At Powerplay Racing Farm LLC, located in Medina, Ohio, we bring a passion for Standardbred horse breeding, harness racing, and equine care to life. Owned by Thomas and Cheryl Houck, our farm is more than a business—it’s the realization of a lifelong dream.
Cheryl comes from a long line of horsemen known as “The Matneys,” with her father, Hobert, passing down generations of knowledge and dedication to Standardbred care. Thomas, a former president of an industrial supply company in Parkersburg, WV, discovered his love for horse racing as he looked toward retirement. Together, they combined family traditions and a shared passion for horses to establish Powerplay Racing 87 LLC in 2019.
What started as a small stable of pacers has grown into a thriving operation with over 80 horse stables, guided by their talented trainers and family members, James and Hannah Day, who are also Thomas and Cheryl’s daughter and son-in-law. This family tradition continues with the hope of inspiring future generations.
In 2023, Thomas and Cheryl expanded their vision with the opening of Powerplay Farms, focusing on breeding, boarding, and standing stallions. Our farm proudly stands premier stallions, including Heavenly Sound, McErlean, One Through Ten, SomewhereInVerona, Sunfire Blue Chip and Western Vintage, carefully selected for their superior bloodlines and racing achievements. We also stand the world champion sire Dali p,3,1:48.2f ($1,419,464) and is now standing at Powerplay Farms in Ohio, offering breeding’s for the 2025 season.
